The Iron and Wood Shelving Unit combines the strong presence of metal with the natural surfaces of reclaimed wood. Its marine plywood uprights are clad in old metal sheets recovered from a disused metal factory in Abbiategrasso, while the shelves are made from reclaimed scaffolding boards left in their natural state. Oxidation, wood grain and irregularities are not concealed or made uniform: each element retains its own history, creating a combination of materials that cannot be reproduced exactly.

The shelving unit can be made again and adapted to suit the space, with dimensions and available materials agreed upon with the artisan. Reclaimed metal sheets and wooden boards are selected for each commission. The design remains recognisable, while its surfaces and details cannot be duplicated exactly.
